Airbrush makeup is most commonly used as a foundation, because it provides such a smooth base on your skin that you don’t even need to apply powder or anything else if you don’t want to. There is also blush and eye shadow airbrush makeup, but for beginners, I would advise you to start with airbrush makeup foundation and get good at airbrushing foundation on before you move on to anything else.

With practice and a few airbrush makeup tips, the application process will only take 2-3 minutes in the mornings, and a good quality spray foundation will easily last you 12 hours before needing any touch-ups. Temptu airbrush makeup has different density settings, so you can start with a very light spray to avoid making any noticeable mistakes on your makeup.

Here are some application tips to get the smoothest results from using airbrush foundation makeup:

Depending on the airbrush system you’re using, you might need to shake the liquid for 30-60 seconds before you apply the drops into the applicator. Otherwise the product may be applied unevenly.
Just as if you were spray painting a wall or a piece of artwork, you want your airbrush wand to be constantly moving while the product is in use. Don’t rest on any one area of your face too long, even though you may have a blemish that you want to more fully conceal. Keep moving, and apply multiple, light layers to create flawless skin. If you let the foundation build up in one area, the results will look unnatural, and you’ll end up having to wash your whole face off and start again.
Prep your skin first to absorb the airbrush make up as smoothly as possible. This involves definitely rubbing on some non-comedogenic facial lotion first, and some face primer if you have any, before you apply the foundation. It might take a little more time, but the results will look better and last longer.
If you are running out of product, stop and re-fill, because if you get too low, the air brush makeup may start splattering and creating bumps of the spray foundation on your face. It may take some practice and trial and error to learn how long the recommended drops will last you, and you may have to clean your face off and start again before you learn.

Just as when you were a teenager and learning how to apply makeup like an “adult,” you will have to re-learn how to use airbrushed makeup to look your best. Many people have good results by just setting aside a few hours to practice with the airbrush applicator so that they will have enough skill to apply it in the mornings before work, school, or just getting ready to go out. The results of airbrush makeup are far superior to traditional makeup, but it will take some practice to get the results you want.

Recommended Airbrush Makeup Foundation?

Of the two main airbrush companies, Temptu and Luminess, I almost always recommend Temptu, because it’s the same brand that professional makeup artists use. However, if you must have an airbrush makeup kit and can’t afford around $250 for Temptu, then the basic Luminess airbrush model is available for about $170. If it’s possible though, I’d suggest you save your money for a good Temptu system.
