And why spend the money when you can learn to apply airbrush tattoo yourself on your own body or any of your friends. Who knows, you may find out that you like doing it so much that you want to open up your own booth, shop or do it in your kitchen for private customers.
If you learn everything you need to know about the process and order the right tools that will hold up to a lot of work, you will find that it is just a matter of practice before you become a pro. The following article will share a quick guide to airbrush tattooing.
First you will need to get an airbrush kit for spraying on your tattoos. Depending on your budget, these can range in price from $50 to several hundred dollars. The Vogue Air kit can be purchases on Amazon for approximately $70 and should be the perfect thing to get you started whether you are interested in just using it for personal use or becoming a professional.
You can also purchase several types of stencils from Amazon such as the” New Airbrush Stencils 30 Temporary Tattoos Designs Design Book 5 Profession Popular Hot Stylish Style Design Pattern”. Most stencil book sets go for around $45. If you know how to draw, you could create your own designs and find some sturdy cardboard or paper material that will run through your printer.
When you are ready to begin, you will want to follow the next few steps:
- Clean the area you wish to apply the tattoo to with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol). This can be purchased for a few dollars from any pharmacy, grocery or retail store.
Shake your desired paint choice well. You will need to load it into the top cup of your airbrush gun or the bottom feed bottle, depending on which airbrush product you have purchased. Most products will come will instructions so if you are unsure, you can check the pamphlet for more details.- There are two types of stencils you can use. Those that are self adhesive and only merely need to have the backing stripped so it can be affixed to the skin area around where you would like the tattoo placed, or the Mylar stencils which come with a Stencil Tac on the back which needs to be damped slightly or sprayed with a light mist and then placed onto the area of skin.
- Keeping your arm about 3-4 inches from the tattoo stencil, spray the paint onto the stencil and through to the skin. If you would like a darker tattoo, you may want to add several layers of paint. Keep in mind though that the heavier you spray, or the closer you are to the skin, the paint will come out too thick and will tend to run and bleed colors which could ruin your tattoo.
- Once you have successfully completed your tattoo transfer, you need to set it by applying a light coat of ordinary baby powder(also known as talcum powder). Make sure that you do not smudge the tattoo design and let it dry thoroughly before getting dressed or covering it up.
A quick note about keeping your equipment clean:
-be sure to clean between colors or when completion of session. Use rubbing alcohol or specialized airbrush cleaner.
-when cleaning your stencils, use rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Be sure to pat dry and not rub or wipe as the wiping motion may damage any of the weak parts in the stencil design.
Most airbrush tattoos last from between 2 to 5 days depending on your skin type. If you need to shower, swim or exercise, be sure to apply more baby powder to the tattoo area when finished to help preserve the tattoo as long as possible. Remember to pat your skin dry where the tattoo has been applied and do not rub or the tattoo will be destroyed, and do not scrub your body area when showering or you will lose the tattoo.
